Leandra Goncalves,Trainer
We place great emphasis on nurturing our own talent and support our employees at
all levels to develop their skills and capabilities. As a 24 hour business we’re able to offer flexible
working arrangements so if you’re seeking part time employment we can offer shifts to suit your needs.
What can I expect when I join Macdonald Hotels? All new employees have a
one-day induction programme at the hotel. You’ll learn about the history of the company, our strategy
for the future, our vision and values and health and safety. You’ll also undertake a number of group
exercises to help you get to know each other and to make the day fun! General Managers have a one day
GM induction providing an introduction to our Mystery Guest programme, our company strategy and our
commitment to quality. What other training can I do? As you progress
through your first months you’ll take part in our Commitment to Excellence training programme alongside
hotel employees from different departments. This is a modular programme focusing on values that are key
to our success such as customer focus and teamwork. How can I progress in the company?
This very much depends on your ambitions and skill set. You can develop a career within a
specific department such as Front of House or the kitchen. Or you can progress from a Head of Department
role to Operations Manager and onwards to General Manager and Regional Director. View profiles of our people
to see how they have developed their careers so far. Do you offer a chef apprenticeship
scheme?
Yes we take on up to 16 apprentices every year. The scheme is open to candidates who can demonstrate a
passion for food. We provide your uniform and professional knives and give you the opportunity to work
alongside skilled chefs, many of whom have gained AA rosettes. Working in partnership with Motherwell
College in Scotland, apprentices spend 9 weeks at the college during the scheme.
